Ask Your AncestorsMost of us live our lives bowing to society's demand to be highly individualistic. The price we pay is alienation, loneliness and isolation. In this state we have only our rationalistic thinking to rely upon, and only ourselves to blame if our lives don’t go well. When we stumble, there is no safety net to fall into. Our workshops offer an outlook of hope. They teach about resources we can all tap into when we need additional support in dealing with life’s challenges. They show us where to look for strength. We are reminded it is disconnection, exclusion and non-belonging what weakens us. We learn CONNECTION, INCLUSION, BELONGING provide the path to strength. Rewards come from the experience of being at peace with ourselves, our families and our culture, and to feel safely held by the support that flows from those we thought were long gone. We only have to learn how to listen. We all have this gift, albeit unlocked in most of us. In a spirit of awe and reverence each one of us is capable to feel deeply connected with any other person, as much so with a living one as with the one who has passed on. We do not need to look far to find cultures who cherish the contact with the ancestors. Indigenous Australians are accustomed to it. Neighboring nations are proud to be in touch with theirs. Villagers in Papua New Guinea wander into the forests to talk to their forebears, to ask them for advice, to let them know of their troubles, and come back refreshed and nourished by those deeply felt contacts. We can create our own 'forest of encounter'. Our gatherings open the space which we enter in humility to get in touch with those who walked the earth before us. Then we return to our daily lives refreshed and strengthened by the experience. to continue click here ![]() |
